(Luke 6:38) Give, and it shall be given to you, good measure pressed down and shaken together and running over, they shall give into your bosom. For with the same measure that you measure, it shall be measured to you again.
Recently there has been a lot of discussion in regards to whether or not Christians should tithe. Much in part do to a recent series preached by Creflo Dollar regarding grace. Basically, he stated that tithing was pretty much Old Testament and under the law. Now we are under grace and tithing is no longer required. This has caused a major uproar in the Christian community both for and against his teaching. Recently I’ve listened to Bishop Elect Marvin Winans and Pastor Donnie McClurkin as they gave their opinions on the topic. My opinion is that all three had points that made sense and had merit. At the same time, I believe all pastors that focus on tithing and 10% actually put limits on their members giving. The tithe or the tenth is so ingrained in their members that once they tithe they feel that they’ve met their obligation and that’s enough.
Personally, I support one main ministry and give them about 16% of one source of my income monthly. I have other sources of income and sometimes I give additional to the main ministry I support along with other ministries. I’ve donated to Dr. Charles Stanley, also to Bishop Winans ministry as well as Pastor Donnie McClurkin along with others. Giving to me is just natural not from the tithing aspect but from our scripture text. I found out that when you give you get just as the scripture promises. This year for my birthday I decided to do something different I decided to sow a seed on my birthday. I sowed into three different ministries 24 hours later I received a 4-digit blessing. I encourage pastors everywhere to stop putting limits on giving. Stop asking folks to give a $100-dollar seed when the Holy Spirit may be telling someone to give $1000. You as leader need to trust that God will take care of his house.
I’ve always been a giver even when I didn’t have much to give. I’m not financially well off but I’m blessed. God blessed us with a good deal 4 years ago on our home, today it’s worth almost double the value when we purchased it. The Holy spirit will guide you in all things while everyone is complaining about gas prices my wife and I both have EV’s with her’s being paid off. As our text promises there are blessings in good measure when you give if all that you are giving is 10% then maybe all you’re expecting is a 10% blessing. Remember what the scripture says For with the same measure that you measure, it shall be measured to you again. Be Encouraged and Blessed Minister Mike.
