Lord Help Me To Hold Out (the little things)

(2Ki 5:1)  And Naaman, commander of the army of the king of Syria, was a great and exalted man with his master, because Jehovah had given deliverance to Syria by him. He was also a mighty man, but a leper.(2Ki 5:10)  And Elisha sent a messenger to him, saying, Go and wash in Jordan seven times, and your flesh shall come to you, and you shall be clean.(2Ki 5:11)  But Naaman was angry, and went away. And he said, Behold, I said within myself, He will surely come out to me and stand and call on the name of Jehovah his God, and strike his hand over the place and recover the leper.

There are times when the solution to life’s problems are simple, however for whatever reason we neglect to do what is needed. We may need to stop eating pork but we don’t. We may need to just stay away from certain people but we don’t. We may actually need to move or find a new job but we don’t. Now moving or finding a new job may not be that simple but in fact it may be what is needed in order for there to be peace in your life. Yet the real simple things cutting back or eliminating salt from your diet. Exercising daily, being kinder to friends and loved ones, or in my case just drinking more water (by the way I’m drinking water as I write this). Often there are simple very uncomplicated things that we can do to improve the quality of our lives yet for whatever reason we just won’t do them.

In our scripture text Naaman is an important man with a lot of prestige and responsibility at the same time he’s a leper. He hears about the prophet Elisha and that through him he might be made whole. When Elisha through a messenger instructs him as to what he must do he becomes angry. First of all, he’s mad because Elisha didn’t personally come out to see him secondly because of where and what he is instructed to do in order that he be made whole. We can suffer for years because we fail to simply follow instructions or good advice. We feel that we should not have to do whatever we are instructed or advised to do because it does not line up with how we feel or what we believe we should do. One of my greatest mentor’s and supporters in life offered me help some years before I finally allowed him to help me. In our scripture text Naaman finally follows Elisha’s instructions and he’s healed. Down in your heart in your gut you know there is someone’s advice or instructions that you should be adhering to stop putting it off do it today!!!! Be Encouraged and Blessed Minister Mike.
