(Num 22:28) And Jehovah opened the mouth of the ass, and she said to Balaam, What have I done to you, that you have beaten me these three times?
Our scripture text is one of the most interesting stories in the Bible. It involves God causing an ASS or Donkey to speak. I won’t go into sharing the story of Balaam who was a prophet and when we study scripture he appears to be a somewhat shady one. However, he was a prophet and it took an ASS to literally speak in order for him to realize he was on a path to destruction. I encourage you to read this story as well as other references about Balaam in the Bible. You should find him to have been an interesting character
How often in life does it take something out of the ordinary in order for God to get our attention. We go along in life so caught up in our daily routine that we miss what God is trying to show us. Our focus may be that of tunnel vision and we neglect to see what is going on around us. Our children may need our help, or our spouse, maybe a friend or loved one may need us. We are so caught up that we tune out everything and everybody. We are on a path to destruction a don’t even realize it. Our lifestyle has us just moments away from imminent destruction. A heart attack could be lying ahead or a stroke. A marriage or relationship may be hanging by a thread. We could be on the verge of losing our job or causing permanent damage to our relationship with our children.
One of the most important things in life is balance something we should work on daily. When there is no balance in our lives eventually something is going to give. Sometimes we can be too passionate about our passion. We can also be to focused as I stated earlier. The Bible says (Pro 4:26) Ponder the path of your feet, and all your ways will be established. (Pro 3:5) Trust in Jehovah with all your heart, and lean not to your own understanding. (Pro 3:6) In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths. There are times we need to slow down and think about what we are doing and at the same time seek the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Sometimes what we are doing is just for a season and not meant to be a lifelong habit, practice, or career. We need to know when to say when and change direction before God uses an ASS to get our attention. God can and does use things out of the norm to get our attention when there is balance in our lives he doesn’t have to do that. Slow down, take a break, take the time to literally smell the roses Be Encouraged and Blessed Minister Mike.
