(Gen 12:1) And Jehovah said to Abram, Go out of your country, and from your kindred, and from your father’s house into a land that I will show you. (Gen 12:2) And I will make you a great nation. And I will bless you and make your name great. And you shall be a blessing.
(Gen 12:3) And I will bless those that bless you and curse the one who curses you. And in you shall all families of the earth be blessed. (Gen 12:4) And Abram departed, even as Jehovah had spoken to him. And Lot went with him. And Abram was seventy-five years old when he departed from Haran.
I believe in every stage of life it is so important to take time to make sure that you are listening to the voice of God. Our scripture text provides us with a story about a man whose obedience affected the entire world even to this day. In the story of Abram who is later renamed Abraham we find a man who at 75 years old leaves the comfort of his surroundings to start all over again. What is interesting is that we don’t see where there is anything wrong with his surroundings from the previous chapter. It does not appear that he was disliked by family or friends quite the contrary as his nephew Lot accompanies him on his journey.
God could have blessed him right where he was however for Abram to become Abraham he had to go. It was important that he should first of all be obedient to the commands of God secondly he had to be in the place where God would bless him. Three major religions are traced back to Abraham Islam, Judaism, and Christianity. He was childless at 75 however because of his obedience at 100 years old his 90 wife becomes pregnant with his son Isaac. We are not going to tell the story of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob here however if you never read it we encourage you to do so. If you have read it before we encourage you to read it again start at Genesis 11 and read on as far as the spirit leads you to. What we want you to do is look at the life of Abraham and think about yourself.
It is so easy to let life slip by just living from day to day. No matter what situation you find yourself in make sure that you are listening to the voice of the Holy Spirit. Things can be great with your job, your family, your church family, your friends. However, you will never fulfill your purpose in life until you make that move. Remember Abram was 75 years old when God told him to get going so that he could become Abraham the Father of many people and a great nation. Take out time on a regular basis to slow down and listen. Get away from everybody and everything (be safe now) find somewhere that you can hear the voice of God Be Encouraged and Blessed Minister Mike.
