(John 3:16) For God so loved the world that He gave His only-begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
(John 3:17) For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but so that the world might be saved through Him.
People all over the world who don’t even believe in God are familiar with John 3:16. For a period of time you could watch various sporting events on TV and see people in the crowd holding up signs with John 3:16 written on them. If you don’t know anything about God or the Bible this is a great place to start. When you come to the realization the creator of the universe loved you and I so much that he already had a plan in place to redeem mankind after their fall from grace.
When Adam and Eve disobeyed God and ate of the forbidden fruit God could have easily wiped mankind from their very existence. One can only imagine how it grieved God so when Adam and Eve disobeyed him. They had everything they could ever need and want all they had to do was stay away from one tree out of many available from them to eat from. We do the same thing today we grieve God every time we sin and fall short of his expectations of us.
The interesting thing is in verse 17 we see that God did not send his son into this world to condemn us which by right he surely could have. He sent his son here to save us he who knew no sin took on our sins in order that we might be saved. What a loving caring God we have and what an awesome savior we have. As the song says “He gave us the very best he had, he gave us the very best he had, when no one else could pass the test he sent his son the very best he gave us the very best he had”. God gave to us, when we had nothing to give to him. God needs nothing from us but we need everything from him. We need him for our daily existence yet as our scripture text reveals all we must do is believe in Jesus Christ and we are saved.
Since there is nothing that we can give God we owe him our devotion, our thanks, our worship, and our praise. None of us have the right to be here today yet God gave us his love and allowed us to come into existence. We owe him so much yet there is so little that we can give him. As we go through life we should always remember God’s gift to us as we deal with others. There is nothing that we can give anyone that even comes close to what God gave us. Keep this in mind as you go about your daily tasks and if you don’t believe in God or Jesus Christ it does not change that fact that he gave you a gift that you are not worthy of. When you accept his gift and believe that he gave it believe that Jesus Christ came and died for you once you believe than you to will have the right to everlasting life.
