Mark 10:34) And they will mock Him, and will scourge Him, and will spit on Him, and will kill Him. And the third day He shall rise again.
Last week this time for the second straight year The Super Bowl drew a record audience. Prior to the Super Bowl here is what I posted on Facebook “Does God Care about Sports games we may soon find out. On the one hand you have Tom Brady who in his own words says “We’re not Jewish,” Brady told Leibovich. “But I think we’re into everything. … I don’t know what I believe. I think there’s a belief system, I’m just not sure what it is.” On the other hand you have Russell Wilson a devout Christian who you could clearly see was praying during the singing of the National Anthem. This should be interesting!!! So the question is can God get The Glory in a Super Bowl?
Well anyone who watched the game and many who didn’t know of how it was one of the most competitive and exciting Super Bowls ever. You may have also heard about the infamous call on the last play of the game. It is a call that will probably be part of Super Bowl lore for years to come (should the Lord tarry as the saints of old would say). However for those who were rooting for Russell Wilson they were disappointed as he threw an interception on the final play clinching a win for Tom Brady and the New England Patriots. So what were the Super Bowl ratings in Heaven? First of all contrary to popular belief I don’t believe that our loved ones who have gone on before us are aware of what is going on here on earth. When a child of God translates from this life to life eternal as the Apostle Paul Said (2Co 5:8) We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord. Our loved ones are with the Lord and I believe they are not aware of what is going on here because this world is still a very stressful and wicked place. Some people use the following scripture as proof our loved ones are aware of what’s going on. (Heb 12:1) Therefore since we also are surrounded with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight and the sin which so easily besets us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,
Now I believe this scripture is referring to the Heavenly hosts as well as Old and New Testament Saints. That being said as with all things in life there is a record of the Super Bowl and the conduct of all those who participated as well as those who watched. However I’m really not sure if the Holy Spirit is involved directly in any sporting event. At the same time Tom Brady who clearly is not a Christian won his 4th Super Bowl and Russell Wilson had probably his most disappointing loss of his young professional career. Yet it’s probably what he did the following Tuesday that received merit in Heaven. Just like many other Tuesdays Russell Wilson was found visiting sick children at Seattles Children’s Hospital. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2015/02/05/russell-wilson-childrens-hospital_n_6621804.html He is doing one of the things that Jesus is concerned about according to scripture (Mat 25:36) I was naked, and you clothed Me; I was sick, and you visited Me; I was in prison, and you came to Me.
There is no sporting event or any event for that matter that can compare to what our savior went through. Just as with the Super Bowl everyone was probably talking about the upcoming crucifiction. Word had spread that the young Rabbi that had performed many miracles restoring sight to the blind, healing the lame, even raising the dead. This young man was scheduled to die on a rugged cross. He was popular and recently the crowds were yelling “Hosanna ; Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord. Now people were saying “crucify him” he could have called legions of angels from heaven to come to his aide but he didn’t. Just as was foretold in our scripture text they mocked Him, they scourged Him, they spat on Him, and killed Him. However the story doesn’t end there because unlike times before this story had a different outcome. You see he didn’t stay in the grave early on the third day he arose from the grave.
Throughout the centuries death was undefeated anyone who got away wound up coming back again. This time it was different death had met its match Jesus died stayed in the grave but early Sunday morning he got up with all power in his hands. What a Super Sunday Morning because Jesus over came you and I can overcome. Sickness, problems, trouble, confusion, even death itself we can overcome because Jesus over came. We are no longer bound by the troubles and cares of this world because once you accept Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord you obtain assurances of all the promises that he made. (Luke 18:29) And He said to them, Truly I say to you, There is no one who has left house, or parents, or brothers, or wife, or children for the sake of the kingdom of God,(Luke 18:30) who shall not receive many times more in this present time, and, in the world to come everlasting life.
