Married Men II

(Isaiah 4:1) And in that day seven women shall take hold of one man, saying, we will eat our own bread and wear our own clothing; only let us be called by your name, to take away our shame.

A CNN survey entitled Americans Weigh In On Morality (2014) presented some interesting results. Time Magazine conducted a similar survey in 1987. We’ll sight some of the results in 1987 the question was asked. Being married and having sex with someone else is it morally wrong? In 1987 92% of respondents affirmed that such an action is morally wrong in 2014 93% of the respondents found such actions to be wrong. Is engaging to homosexual behavior wrong? In 1987 82% of respondents found this behavior to be wrong compared to 50% in 2014. Is living with someone you are not married to morally wrong? In 1987 54% of respondents found this wrong compared to 32% in 2014. Is looking at a pornographic magazine wrong? In 1987 58% of the respondents found this wrong compared to 46% in 2014.

For the married person having sex outside of marriage which in most cases are men even though the number of women having sex outside of their marriage is increasing. This type of activity is still one of society’s greatest Taboo’s. However in the eyesight of God all of the others are just as sinful. However people are comfortable with their own sins while condemning the short comings of others. In the Bible David was said to have seven wives as well as a number of concubines. Solomon had (1Kings 11:3) And he had seven hundred wives, princesses, and three hundred concubines. And his wives turned away his heart. Throughout recorded time for some, one wife or one woman is not enough. Recently Pastor Isaac Hunter of Orlando Fl. committed suicide. It is suspected that the fact he had recently admitted to having an affair with a staff member may have attributed to his suicide. There is no reason or justification for the stigma attached to the married man that has sex outside of his marriage in comparison to the single unmarried person who is having sex.

We need to really look at what is appropriate the fact that premarital sex and sex between single or divorced individuals has become acceptable. This is unacceptable because both are sinful. In the Bible the only sex that was acceptable was that between a man and his wife or his concubine. So what does that say for those who consider themselves to be Christians yet they participate or condone sex between individuals that are unmarried. There are gray areas in life but sex between single or divorced individuals is not one of them. As our scripture shows us the time will come when seven women will desire to marry one man the key word is marry. Sex needs to be discussed in our churches and what is appropriate and inappropriate should be made clear and stressed. It’s not right to constantly condemn the married man who cheats on his wife yet give all of those who are unmarried yet sexually active a free pass both are wrong. Celibacy should be taught not only for teens but unmarried young adults and adults. The church should not reflect what is acceptable by the world we are called to be different Be Encouraged and Blessed Minister Mike.
