(Job 42:10) And Jehovah turned the captivity of Job when he prayed for his friends. Also Jehovah added to Job all that had been his, to double. (Act 3:6) But Peter said, Silver and gold have I none, but what I have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk! (Act 3:7) And taking him by the right hand, he lifted him up. And immediately his feet and ankle-bones received strength. (Act 3:8) And leaping up, he stood and walked and entered with them into the temple, walking and leaping and praising God.
We live in a time and culture where even as Christians we’ve become more and more dependent on drugs. There are those in the medical profession that are starting to admit that we may have serious problems because of the excessive prescribing of drugs which often mask our symptoms but don’t heal us of our illnesses and diseases. When you watch TV there is always some drug commercial promoting some type of drug to help with anything and everything that ails us. However towards the end of the commercial the announcer will rapidly start naming the possible side effects and in some commercials they’ll even very rapidly mention the possibility of side effects that could lead to death. Yet the doctors keep prescribing the pills and people keep taking them so drug companies keep making enormous profits.
I’ve been dealing with a rare cold all week and it has not been fun, I often tell people that I don’t get the flu or colds because Fibromyalgia tends to keep a grip on my body so that nothing else can get a hold of it. We’ll I’ve been drinking a lot of tea and self-medicating I don’t take a lot of drugs because I tend to get or have the side effects that they mention in those commercials. I almost died once because I had my medicines mixed up, had not my sister who was in nursing school at the time come to check on me I would not be alive today. Anyway being impatient I decided yesterday to buy some generic Nyquil to just blow this cold out of my system. While I did get a pretty good night’s sleep I woke up this morning feeling medicated that’s the best term I can come up with.
In our scripture text at the end of Job’s period of testing God turns things around for Job and not only does he receive his healing but his fortune is doubled. I often say that I don’t believe Job caught a cold or was even sick for the rest of his life. Scripture does not address this but does say (Job 42:16) After this Job lived a hundred and forty years, and he saw his sons, and his sons’ sons, four generations. (Job 42:17) And Job died, being old and full of days. So one thing we do know from scripture that after his testing Job had a full life. In our second scripture taken from the 3rd chapter of Acts a man who has been lame from birth is at the temple begging. Peter and John approach the man and he begs them for alms or some money in today’s language. Look at Peter’s response “But Peter said, Silver and gold have I none, but what I have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk! (Act 3:7) And taking him by the right hand, he lifted him up. And immediately his feet and ankle-bones received strength”. Then look at what this man who has never walked in his life does. (Act 3:8) And leaping up, he stood and walked and entered with them into the temple, walking and leaping and praising God.
The miracle of God’s healing power is available to us today just as it was during the days of Jesus and the Apostles. For some reason in far too many cases it is not being accessed. I truly believe that there is no one anywhere in the world who is sick right now that God does not want to heal and see well. Let me say that again, I truly believe that there is no one anywhere in the world who is sick right now that God does not want to heal and see well. (Jas 5:14) Is any sick among you? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord.
So what do we have here? First of all there’s a question is anybody sick? If so what should the sick folk do? Let’s pause right here what do we do when we get sick? For many Christians the first thing they do is go to the doctor. Now I don’t have any problem with doctors God uses many of them, however scripture does not instruct us to go to the doctor. It says call for the elders (plural not one) of the church. One thing we tend to overlook there is strength in numbers, not that we can’t seek healing on our own or have just one person pray with and for us. God wants us to come together and be concerned for each other. We are further instructed to anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. Look what happens next those prayers of the elders are transformed into one unified prayer of faith. Here’s the neat part there are no disclaimers of possible side effects when we follow Biblical Instruction there is a guarantee. (Jas 5:15) And the prayer of faith will cure the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up. And if he has committed sins, it will be forgiven him.
If you are sick today God wants to heal you, you don’t have to be perfect just obedient when it comes to his instructions for healing. My dad always said “The Doctors don’t know everything The Lord is a Healer. Don’t grow impatient remember the story in our text from Acts 3 this man was lame from birth yet after following the Apostle Peter’s instructions. He rises up goes into the temple walking leaping and praising God. There are no side effects from God’s healing once he heals it’s done we are made whole. It may not be a lack of faith on your part it may just be that it’s not yet time. Personally this year marks 17 years battling Fibromyalgia while it’s not gone it is nowhere near as bad as it used to be. The cold I’ve been dealing with it too shall pass because as Dad stated the Lord is a Healer.
Father in heaven I come to you on behalf of all those who read this blog that are sick, or who may have a sick loved one or friend that needs healing. I pray that they receive the promises of healing found in your Holy Word. We can’t see them, we may not know them, however just as the Apostle Peter did in our text, In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth we command every sickness and disease to go away never to trouble and attack those who read these words or the loved ones who they are praying for. We believe that bodies will be healed and restored we Thank you for it in Jesus name we pray Amen and Amen. If you are a member of a church let this prayer be joined with those that you fellowship with together our one prayer of faith will yield the results promised in God’s word be Encouraged and Blessed Minister Mike.
