(Jer 37:17) Then Zedekiah the king sent, and took him out: and the king asked him secretly in his house, and said, Is there any word from the LORD? And Jeremiah said, There is: for, said he, thou shalt be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon.
One of my favorite songs penned by the Maestro the late Thomas Whitfield is the song We need a word from the Lord. In our scripture text above King Zedekiah inquires of the prophet Jeremiah as to whether or not there is a word from the Lord. Jeremiah responds that there is, however it is not good news. In the following chapters Jeremiah goes though a lot for telling and prophesying the truth. He finds himself in a dungeon full of mire, his very life is threatened yet he survives. Throughout the following chapters he is asked what God is saying yet the people don’t receive it. The news is bad but Jeremiah gives them information about what they can do to survive and live through the impending troubles that God says are going to come. Yet the people fail to listen.Today we face the toughest times since the Great Depression and when you turn on the TV listen, to the radio, or log on to the Internet everyone has an opinion. As you read the following chapters of our text the people once again inquire of Jeremiah what the Lord is saying, yet they refuse to accept it. It takes ten days before Jeremiah can get back with them with an answer yet when he gives them what the Lord has said they don’t accept it. Today we most desperately need a word from the Lord. But what is God really saying? How can we really know? During the days of Jeremiah God reminded the people of the following.
(Jer 44:9) Have ye forgotten the wickedness of your fathers, and the wickedness of the kings of Judah, and the wickedness of their wives, and your own wickedness, and the wickedness of your wives, which they have committed in the land of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem?(Jer 44:10) They are not humbled even unto this day, neither have they feared, nor walked in my law, nor in my statutes, that I set before you and before your fathers.
As we look at our world today we can ask the question is God pleased? What has gone on in the past as well as what is going on today has a lot to do with what the true word from the Lord is for this time and this season. Personally I can’t tell you what the word from the Lord is, I’m daily seeking God for answers and direction. These are tough times and we need to clearly hear and follow God’s direction because if things are going to get worse only he can see us through them. Be Encouraged and Blessed Minister Mike
