(Luke 15:17) And when he came to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my father abound in loaves, and I perish with hunger!
One of the most popular and famous story of The New Testament is that of The Prodigal Son found in the 15th Chapter of Luke verses 11 through 32. If I were in church right now I’d say “you know the story” for those of you who don’t I encourage you to read it the first chance that you get. In this powerful story we have one of two sons who prematurely requests that his Dad gives him his inheritance he goes off into a foreign land has a good time and eventually loses everything that he has. First point he was not thinking clearly when he approaches his Dad for his inheritance this was rude and disrespectful because his Dad was yet alive. Second point he was not ready to accept such a responsibility because was not mature enough to wisely handle his sudden wealth. Third it takes him losing all of his worldly goods and possessions to finally realize who he really was.
When we chase after the glitz and glamour of life it is so easy for us to lose focus we forget not only who we are but whose we are. Scripture tells us that we were bought with a price and that price was death. Jesus died in order that we might live not any kind of life but a life full of abundance. We are children, sons, and daughters of a King and not just any King but The King of Kings. Some of you reading this right now are not experiencing the best that God has for you in this life. You may be tired, weary, busted, and disgusted. You’re away from home, for some not so much literally but spiritually you’re lost in a foreign land and you’re broken. The first step to finding your way back home is to do just as The Prodigal Son in our story did. You have to honestly look at yourself then you need to come to yourself. You need to get in touch with the real you the person that God created and ordained you to be. You need to realize not only who you are but whose you are and soon you’ll find yourself back home. Spiritually that home is to be in proper and right relationship with God our creator. You don’t have to do much just in your heart say “Oh Lord Fix Me” He knows that you’re broken and he knows just what you need to get you back on track.
Father we Thank You for the opportunity to come home. None of us have been as good as we ought to have been. None of us have stayed on the right path always we’ve all ventured off at one time or another in our lives. Father in Heaven we just Thank You because you are always there waiting patiently for us to come to ourselves and recognize that you have so much more for us if we’d just Trust and Obey. Father we just ask that you would touch that man that boy that woman and that girl who is lost. They are lonely and alone even in the midst of thousands of people. Let your Holy Spirit speak softly to them, help them and encourage them to come home for some both literally and spiritually in Jesus name we pray Amen and Amen.
