(John 10:10) The thief does not come except to steal and to kill and to destroy. I have come so that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
In the movie Shawshank Redemption Andy makes a statement that he had a choice he could either “Get Busy Living or Get Busy Dying”. On a daily basis we all are given that same choice are we going to live life to the fullest or are we going to merely exist and sooner or later die a sad and in some cases lonely death. In the book of Deuteronomy we see that living is actually a choice. (Deuteronomy 30:19) I call Heaven and earth to record today against you. I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing. Therefore, choose life, so that both you and your seed may live. (Ecclesiastes 7:17) Do not be very wicked, and do not be a fool; why should you die before your time? So we see that not only is life a choice but if we don’t live a wicked or foolish life that we will live until our appointed time. People leave this life daily ahead of time for one reason or another every time we hear of someone dying it is not their appointed time many leave this life early ahead of schedule.
Our scripture text informs us that the enemy wants to steal, kill and destroy us. However Jesus came that we might have LIFE and have it more abundantly. Yet many live this life and never experience that abundance. Jesus did not say things just to be saying them he backed them up. How we live our lives is a sign as to whether or not we accept the promises of God through Jesus Christ our savior. I often have to remind and encourage myself to LIVE and not merely exist it is a choice. My mom and Dad were classic examples my dad rarely let the problems of life get to him or at least it appeared that way. He lived his life and left here at almost 94 years old in Biblical fashion he talked with my brother and mother and just like a biblical character from the Bible gave up the ghost and went home to be with the Lord.
On the other hand my mom who was 17 years younger than my dad transitioned this life at age 88. She was a very beautiful and caring person who was loved by many to this day her neighbors tell me how they look at her house and still miss her. My mom however let things get to her even though she knew better she worried. She would allow things to get to her she was the total opposite of my dad when it came to handling life’s problems. Example we could have the best insurance that money could buy and if our house burned down to the ground my mom would worry first if we paid the premium second would the insurance company pay for everything. Same situation my dad would have probably looked at the rubble of what used to be our home and comment “I guess we need to look for another house”.
How we handle life’s situations and problems determines whether or not we live or merely exist. Nothing in this life or the life to come catches God by surprise and we need to always remember this. We are promised an abundant life and we must constantly remind ourselves of this fact no matter what we go through in life. It can and will get better when we stop looking at the problem or situation and put our trust in God. The other thing we must do is control our thoughts if we constantly think the worse than we’ll continue to experience the worst. (Proverbs 23:7) for as he thinks in his heart, so is he; Eat and drink, he says to you, but his heart is not with you. What you think and believe in your heart determines your own reality. If in your heart you think I’m sick then you’ll continue to be sick. If in your heart you believe the promises of God when it comes to healing you will experience healing at some point in your life. If you think that you’re a failure then you are a failure. You are what you think as well as what you say and declare over your life. (Proverbs 18:21) Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it shall eat the fruit of it. You will experience what you say if you speak positive and keep speaking it that’s what you are growing. Look at what the scripture says “those who love it shall eat the fruit of it” fruit has to be planted, cultivated, and grown. You need to constantly speak positives things over your own life then do something about it.
If you plant a garden it won’t grow by itself you must keep out the weeds (the negative stuff in your life) you’ve got to water it (daily study of God’s word) and some time you have to prune shape or cut (allow the Holy Spirit to work on you). Life is a precious gift from God that he gives to us daily it is up to us what we do with it. Whether we live and enjoy it to the Max is our decision. Abundant life is there for you as well as for me it is up to each one of us whether we grasp it or just take it as it comes and merely exist. Be Encouraged and Blessed Minister Mike.
