The Courage to be different

(James 4:4) Adulterers and adulteresses! Do you not know that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? Therefore whoever desires to be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.
(1 John 2:15) Do not love the world, nor the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him,
(1John 2:16) because all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
(1John 2:17) And the world passes away, and the lust of it, but he who does the will of God abides forever.

My Dad during the latter years of his life had a radio program called Back To God he may have been passed 80 when he started the program. He became disenchanted and disappointed in the church and how he felt many were leaving the standards that he was raised on. He felt that many had strayed away and weekly pleaded with them to come Back To God I am sure that he would look at many of today’s churches with total disdain if not disgust. While many talk a good talk they do not bear the fruit of a ministry that the Holy Spirit is operating in. Not only as churches but as Christians we are called out of the world as far as the way we live our lives and conduct ourselves.  As a Christian there should be something different about you when compared to those that follow the trends and fads of this world. You should mirror the image of Christ, you shouldn’t be arrogant, or appear to be lofty and better than others. Christ was approachable by anybody which is why the lowest of the low gravitated to him. Through out scripture we find that God’s people were always different when they were following God. We find these words in scripture (Deuteronomy 14:2) For you are a holy people to Jehovah your God, and Jehovah has chosen you to be a peculiar people to himself, above all the nations that are on the earth. In 1Peter (1Peter 2:9) But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for possession, so that you might speak of the praises of him who has called you out of darkness into the marvelous light.

The Bible is full of people who dared to be different Job stood out that’s why God asked satan if he had considered his servant Job there was none like him.  Joseph was different his brothers couldn’t stand him calling him a dreamer but Joseph and Job both maintained their morals and self-respect even when tested by some of life’s toughest circumstances. Jesus was different when Philip tells Nathanael about Jesus Nathanael responds by asking Philip if anything good could come out of Nazareth. Today the world lumps all Christians in to one pot they can’t stand Christians not because they are different but because they often lack compassion and understanding. Many times they do everything that they tell others not to do. They are often arrogant and self-righteous when Christ was meek and lowly. It takes courage to be different not only from the world but from so-called Christians. There are many people hurting in the world today, people are masking their hurt and pain through drugs, alcohol, sex, violence and other counter productive ways of dealing with life’s problems.

God is looking for his people to be different not in the sense of being better than anyone else. He is looking for people who show the same Love that Christ shown during his time here on earth. He’s looking for people to be that someone who people can turn to when faced with life’s toughest problems. People who will not condone but at the same time won’t condemn. Do you have what it takes to be different to stand your ground and be the person that God created you to be?  Can you be that person that allows the light of Christ to shine through them as they live in a dark world?  Can God count on you? Be Encouraged and Blessed Minister Mike
